International Fuel Technology Announces U.K.-Based East Midlands Trains

ST. LOUIS, July 6, 2010 – International Fuel Technology, Inc. (IFT) (OTCBB:IFUE) announced today that East Midlands Trains will continue using DiesoLiFT™ 10 in its light rail, diesel multiple unit (DMU) operations. East Midlands Trains recently completed one of the largest in-service field demonstrations ever run utilizing 89 DMUs, the results of which showed that use of DiesoLiFT™ 10 provided a 4.4% improvement in fuel economy, estimated to save nearly 350,000 liters, or 92,000 gallons, of diesel fuel per year.

“The fuel economy improvement realized by East Midlands Trains in the recently completed in-service field demonstration is consistent with fuel economy improvements we have achieved in numerous other in-service and test bed rail engine demonstrations,” said Gary Kirk, IFT’s Director and Sales and Marketing. “Use of DiesoLiFT™ 10 will reduce fuel consumption and harmful emissions. We are excited to work with a company committed to cost effective green technologies.”

Matt Browne, East Midlands Trains’ Environmental Manager, said, “We are extremely pleased to be the first train operator taking part in this in-service field demonstration with IFT.  The results are already demonstrating that by using the fuel additive, DiesoLiFT™ 10, we are improving our fuel efficiency and cutting our carbon emissions. Trains are already one of the most environmentally friendly forms of transport, and use of DiesoLiFT™ 10 is helping us make our trains even greener.”

The East Midlands Trains in-service field demonstration was the culmination of over four years of successful rail engine demonstrations with DiesoLiFT™ 10, which also included four test bed demonstrations at mi Technology (www.ltc.ltd.uk), a prominent independent test facility in the U.K. All test bed and in-service field demonstrations were coordinated and supervised by Interfleet Technology Ltd (www.interfleet-technology.com), a worldwide rail industry consultancy services group. In each of the four test bed demonstrations a positive effect in either reduced fuel consumption or increased power (or both) was achieved. In two of the test bed demonstrations, reductions in fuel consumption of 6.9% and 5.9% were realized. It was also observed that a power increase ranging from 2.0% to 3.5% occurred in three of the demonstrations, along with a reduced boost pressure in all of the tests. This indicates additional fuel economy benefits could be realized by resetting the engine power back to the desired level.

The annual consumption of diesel fuel for rail in the U.K. is approximately 1.2 billion liters, or 317 million gallons. A 5% improvement in fuel economy by using DiesoLiFT™ 10 could reduce the amount of diesel fuel consumed by 60 million liters, or 16 million gallons, annually.
